The Other Side is an original game built in Unity where the player must help a chick get to the other side of as many roads as possible. This task is easier said than done, as the journey is full of stampeding animals who will stop for no one- Not to mention the giant bulldog, lurking somewhere out in the woods. The inspiration for this game was the highly addictive classic arcade game Frogger where players attempt to set a high score by crossing roads and avoiding cars with every playthrough. The Other side comes with a twist. Taking inspiration from the highly successful indie rogue-like game The Binding of Isaac, The Other Side randomly generates every level with each play through. How many levels does the game have you ask? Great question! But this game… is actually endless! As the player progresses, the animals become more dangerous. They get restless, faster, and more frequent. Luckily, the player is able to collect food items to increase the energy of the chick which in turn will help the chick move much quicker. As a matter of fact, gathering these food items is essential to the survival of the chick. Without any energy, it will be nearly impossible for the player to avoid the giant bulldog who arrives every ten levels.

The Other Side caters to anyone who likes challenging, endless, or cute games. This game would be perfect for people still in grade-school who want to compete with their friends or kill time in a computer class- when they have finished all of their work of course!

In the creation of The Other Side, a large focus was put on making the aesthetic engaging and appealing to look at. For this reason, the main menu feels very unique and interactive… almost like its own game. From the main menu the player can check their high score, play a new game, check the rules of the game, toggle the music, change their character, or exit the application. The choice of character and music settings carry over across all scenes.

Even more effort, however, was put into making the game replayable. This was accomplished through the random level generation present in the game as well as the various animals which the player can strive towards unlocking by reaching high levels.

This game was created by Troy Nolan; however, the game took heavy inspiration from a prototype which he created alongside Seth Tillery, Jonathan Smedley, and Brian Newman.
